VERY UNUSUAL FEATURES ON THIS 1894 FACTORY 22” SHORT RIFLE, #666XXX, MADE 1914
Description: VERY UNUSUAL FEATURES ON THIS 1894 FACTORY22” SHORT RIFLE, #666XXX, MADE 1914. This is one of the more interesting short rifles I’ve seen as it is a .32 Winchester Special caliber (most seem to be .30 WCF). It also has a standard weight 22” round barrel with 2/3 magazine- usually this combination is found with an extra lightweight barrel. It also has a nicely figured walnut shotgun butt stock with Winchester embossed hard rubber butt plate. It is very important to note that the wood in the forearm measures 8 3/8” which was only used on shorter than standard rifles which has a length one inch longer. The barrel shows good blue that is evenly thinning somewhat, the mag tube retains strong blue and the receiver has flaked to silver gray (typical of this vintage 1894 as the blue during this period didn’t take well). Exc. screws, tight action and perfect bright bore! It is fitted with the correct .32 W.S. Smokeless rear sight that is unique to this model and caliber, along with a typical Winchester small blade front sight. Exc. forend and butt stock with only one tiny chip by the toe that is worn in and not very apparent. Particularly nice grained higher than standard grade walnut which is typical for special order rifles. This is a super rare combination of features.
