Winchester 1886, Special Order .33 WCF
Description:
UNUSUAL FEATURES ON THIS SPECIAL ORDER 1886, .33 WCF SOLID FRAME RIFLE WITH FULL MAGAZINE AND RIFLE STYLE CRESCENT BUTT PLATE. EARLY #131XXX SERIAL NUMBER AND FACTORY LETTER SHOWING SHIPMENT IN 1904. The .33 WCF smokeless cartridge was first introduced in 1902. Standard rifles had half magazines and shotgun butt plates. Anything else is considered quite rare. The special order options of full magazine tubes and crescent butt plates are rarely seen either by themselves or paired together and really need to be confirmed by a factory letter, as this one has. The receiver blue has flaked or worn to an uncleaned gray/brown with good blue in the protected areas and on the bolt, fine screws, and all sharp markings. The barrel blue is also mainly gray/brown on the top exposed part with good blue around the protected bottom area above the magazine tube and around the front and rear sights. Magazine blue is stronger with about 2/3 remaining. Butt stock and forend are generally excellent with tight wood to metal fit. Left top edge of the forend shows eight tiny notches that I assume represent kills. Flattop buckhorn rear sight with Lyman "Jack sight" (half moon with ivory bead) in the correct short ramp front sight dovetail. Tight action with sharp rifling and ought to scrub out excellent. One of the very few Lightweight 1886 models that actually looks like a full 1886 sporting rifle! Factory letter included. $2750 plus $75 shipping and insurance.
