Winchester Model 1886 Lightweight Rifle .33 W.C.F.
Description: A solid, functional rifle, this Winchester was built in New Haven in 1908. A previous owner personalized the gun by carving a scene with a hunter shouldering a rifle to take a shot at a running 10 point whitetail buck on the right side of the stock. There are also three notches cut into the forward edge of the comb which we interpret as his "deer hunting scorecard". SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes Manufacturer: 1908 Caliber Info: .33 Winchester Center Fire Metal Condition: Bluing on receiver is approximately 65 - 75% intact, with most of the finish on the loading gate, top and bottom of the action being gray/brown patina. The Nickel steel barrel and full-length magazine tube retain the majority of their original bluing wit Wood Condition: The buttstock has beeen sanded and refinished, but the forend still shows an orange peel surface finish under several overcoats of varnish Bore Condition: The bore reflects light well and shows strong rifling with some localized areas of very light pitting. Most likely, the imperfections are too insignificant to cause any detriment to accuracy, but they are present nonetheless. Barrels: 24" Nickel steel tapered round barrel Stock: Smooth, straight grip walnut with folk-art, hand-carved whitetail buck hunting scene on right side. Stock Dimensions: LOP: 13-1/4 Fore End: Smooth walnut with steel forend cap Butt Pad: Rubber shotgun butt pad Weight: 8-1/4 lbs. Sights: White beaded blade ramped front, semi-buckhorn rear. Extras: None Item Location: East Hartford, CT |
