Winchester Model 1894 Takedown Deluxe 30WCF
Description:
This listing is for my Winchester Deluxe Takedown Model 1894 rifle in 30WCF (30-30) Caliber. The serial number is 1258xx, which puts it in the 1898 year of manufacture, but the serial number was applied on October 8, 1901, per the factory letter. Due to this ambiguity, I will require the rifle be shipped to a FFL dealer. The factory letter will be included with the rifle.
I purchased the rifle from Leroy Merz in 2009 and it is in the same condition as I received it. I have not shown or fired the rifle during the time I have owned it. It has resided in my gun safe encased in a protective Sack-Up sleeve. I had hoped to pass this on to my children, but they are not interested, so it needs a new home.
The rifle has a checkered pistol grip stock and forearm. The walnut is fairly straight grain. The finish on the wood is at least 90% of what appears to be original finish. The checkering is in very good condition with little wear. There is some light scratching in the finish, particularly on the left side of the foreend where an earlier owner had carried the rifle. The pistol grip cap is in good condition. The buttplate and lever appear to have been case hardened with some color still showing, particularly on the lever.
The receiver retains 85-90% original bright blue with some light scratches, mainly on the left side from carrying by a previous owner. The 26 inch octagon barrel and the magazine tube retain 90%+ original blue.There is blue wear only where the tube rotates in the front band when using the takedown feature.The forend tip appears to have been blued with about 70% remaining. As usual, there is some browning on the high areas of the receiver, the bottom of the receiver, the top of the rear tang, and slightly more pronounced on the takedown portion attached to the barrel. This is the result of carrying it with the hand on this portion of the rifle. The takedown mechanism works flawlessly. The bore is shiny with good rifling.
The rear sight is a two leaf style with one buckhorn type high blade and one low flat blade with no notch but has a white triangle in the center. It is possible that this was not the original sight as there is a scuff in the blue about an inch to the rear of the sight, but there are no marks on the existing sight or around it to indicate it has been moved. I sold my sight books a while back, so I cannot look up this sight.
This is apparently a deluxe rifle that was lightly used, but well cared for.
