Winchester Model 1895 Special order

Description:
   This is a Winchester Model 1895,  made in 1906.  This rifle was a special order with a 26" barrel and a shotgun butt.  The standard barrel length, and almost all of these sporting rifles  in the .30 US ( .30-40 Krag ) had a 28" barrel and a crescent butt plate. This was definitely a more user, hunter friendly configuration with the shorter barrel ( very rare)  and the larger, more comfortable shotgun butt.  The bore is very decent - it has strong, well pronounced lands and grooves, nice square lands with some darkening and very light abraisions in the grooves - it may clean up a bit better.  The action works as it should, feeds and ejects properly.   This rifle was no doubt lovingly used in it's 99 years and the metal has been refinished, it looks like it may have gotten some corrosion on the left side of the receiver, the lettering is faint in a few spots with some pin pricking under the finish.  The wood is very solid, still flush or just proud of the metal with a small bit of original finish.  The buttstock has a small hole that was evidently used for a metal or leather sling loop.  Overall this should be a good shooter, or hunting rifle - the .30-40 Krag is a great big game cartridge.  This is an interesting special order gun, with some character, and  at a reasonable price.  **** This is a modern gun and must ship to a FFL, or C&R.  I must comply with all local regs.
