This 30-06 caliber Winchester M1 Garand is circa April 1943. The barrel has an excellent bore with bright, strong rifling and a tight muzzle. The rifle has approx. 95% parkerized finish with the barrel possibly being reparkerized. The receiver drawing number is D28291-2. The barrel side marking is the oval WP Winchester proof stamp. The top markings were not checked. The bolt is marked D28287-1W.R.A. The unmodified slant cut operating rod is stamped D35382-W.R.A. The trigger housing, with large pad and cloverleaf hole, is marked D28290-W.R.A. The trigger guard is marked C46025 W.R.A. The trigger is ""A"" marked without the extra hole. The hammer is marked on the side C46008-1W.R.A. The hammer spring guide has the guide wings. The safety is marked C46015-4W.R.A. low on the left side. The clip latch has a round front and center punch mark. The bullet guide is unmarked. The early follower assembly is unmarked. The follower arm has the early single bevel. The op rod catch is early and ""A"" marked. The follower rod has short forks. The lower band is arched and the rear handguard clip is milled with no groove. The Winchester gas cylinder has the narrow sight base with the wide ear Winchester front sight. The locking screw is the solid single slot type. The locking bar rear sight elevation and windage knobs are knurled and the adjusting arrows are open. The Winchester butt plate is stamped 2S on the innside. The stock is fine with a strong circle P firing proof and boxed WRA over GHD final acceptance stamp followed by a small ordnance wheel stamp. The front handguard has the sharp edges on the bottom that are associated with Winchester. It is equipped with a WWII olive drabsling. The action functions correctly. This rifle was sold by the Director of Civilian Markmanship on March 25, 1994. The DD FORM 1348-1A documenting the sale accompanies the rifle. This is a very nice example of a scarce early WWII Winchester M1 Garand.
