Antique Winchester YELLOWBOY Model 1866 .44 Rifle
Description: Antique Winchester YELLOWBOY Model 1866 .44 Rifle Iconic Lever Action Made in 1870 Here we present an antique Winchester Model 1866 Yellowboy Rifle, manufactured in New Haven, Connecticut in 1870. Known as the Yellowboy, due to its brass frame and hardware, this was the first Winchester lever action rifle. It remains absolutely iconic as the “gun that won the West”, being used by pioneers, Native Americans, cowboys, lawmen, and ne'er-do-wells alike. It is the cornerstone for many a historical collection. It was revolutionary for its time, though it was based on the Henry Rifle that saw limited use during the American Civil War. Winchester improved upon the weaknesses of that design to make a very reliable, sturdy, and accurate rifle with a high volume of fire. The magazine tube became totally enclosed from the elements and the frame-mounted loading gate was introduced, allowing quick reloads and the ability to top off the magazine. This Model 1866 is an example of a Third Model in the “musket” configuration, simply a term to denote the longer barrel and higher capacity magazine tube. This one is equipped with a period leather sling. The top of the barrel is marked “WINCHESTER’S REPEATING ARMS/KING’S IMPROVEMENT PATENT MARCH 29, 1866. OCTOBER 16, 1860”. The overall condition is very good. The metal surfaces have a smooth, even brown patina. The markings are legible. The stock is in great shape. The long leaf of the rear sight is absent. The bore is dark with good rifling and a few patches of roughness. The action is excellent. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 27 inches. Caliber: .44 Rimfire Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $7675 #7100 SOLD Antique: Yes |
