Winchester 1866 1st Model Flatside
Description:
A Winchester 1866 .44 Carbine Flatside with Henry drop and Henry Barrel markings.
Alexander Hill fought in the civil war. After the war he reenlisted with the calvary and was sent west on a tour of duty. On a particular patrol he passed thru the
Teton Valley on the west side of the Tetons in Idaho. He was impressed by the scenery and the fertile soil of the valley. It was still a wild unsettled area. Indians spent the summers
there hunting the abundant elk and deer. Grizzleys run at large and still do today. Sometime later after his discharge Mr Hill moved to the "Basin" as locals call it. Along with him was this 66 carbine. The 66 has been handed down from generation to generation within the family.
The serial number is marked in 3 places as it should be but I cannot get the forearm screw loose to check the barrel. I don't think its ever been out. Serial number 13161
puts it in the 1st 1000 to be made. Wood is near excellent for a 66 carbine. Henry patent barrel address is slight as always but clear. Bore is very good as well with all riflings showing up very well. Action works great. It does not appear to have had any polishing or refinishing of any kind. Thanks for looking. Free shipping US.
