WINCHESTER MODEL 1866 RIFLE ENGRAVED WITH MEXICAN EAGLE
Description:
24 inch octagon barrel chambered in 44 RF caliber with a slightly dark pitted bore with visible rifling. Sights include a filed down German silver blade front and musket style rear. Barrel is a faded brown patina while the full length magazine tube is a thinning blue and appears to be a replacement. Brass receiver has a mottled mustard patina. The added scroll engraving features a Mexican Eagle & Snake on the left sideplate. Nice tight fitting side plates. Hammer is a plum/brown and the lever is a silver/gray. Loading gate is a darker brown. Smooth functioning action. Straight grain walnut stocks have been sanded with a coat of varnish added with some handling mars. Brass rifle style buttplate and forend cap have similar style engraving that compliments the receiver. Sling swivels have been added to this Third Model rifle that was made in 1869. Not a bad looking 1866 Winchester rifle to displaying on your wall.
