WINCHESTER MODEL 1866 RIFLE WITH SCARCE ROUND BARREL
Description:
24 inch round barrel chambered in 44 RF caliber with a slightly dark bore that has scattered light roughness. Sights include a German silver blade front and sporting rear with a thick base combination tang peep. Barrel and full length magazine tube have an artificial aged finish from long ago. Brass receiver has been polished long ago and has an even smooth patina forming and has two plugged holes for a saddle ring staple. This rifle was made from a surplus Model 1866 SRC receiver. Tight fitting side plates. Hammer and lever have traces of case colors. Loading gate is a dark blue. Smooth functioning action. Straight grain walnut stocks have been sanded and restored and have some dings and impressions. Steel rifle style buttplate and forend cap are correct for this late Forth Model rifle that was made in 1879. A scarce gun as only about 1,800 were manufactured with round barrels. An opportunity to fill a hole in your collection.
