Description:
This magnificent New York engraved Winchester 1866 SRC is fully silver plated with gold washed frame, barrel bands, and butt plate. It's in excellent overall condition and fully functional. Its finely engraved in period Germanic scrolls with animal portraits in each of the four (4) vignettes or engraving windows. The carbine shows the original full silver-plated finish (including the barrel & magazine) with a gold wash over the silver on the receiver, barrel bands, and butt plate. Approx. 96-98% of the silver plating remains, showing some gray tarnishing. About 75-80% of the gold wash remains on the receiver, barrel bands and butt plate. The finger lever and hammer show a muted case color finish with scattered fine pitting on the lever. The loading gate retains 95% of its bright blue. The forend has a small chip on the left rear end about ¼” wide x ½” long. Other than that, the wood is in fine condition, with a few minor nicks and dings, and a light coating of varnish added a long time ago. The wood-to-metal fit is perfect and the butt stock is numbered to the gun. All the parts on this gun are original to it, the markings are good and sharp, action is good, the bore is good to very good and the original cleaning rod is in the stock cavity. The carbine was made in 1871, serial #77XXX, too early to letter. This magnificent Winchester Carbine is a one-of-a-kind and is worthy of inclusion in the finest and most advanced collection of "high art" Winchester firearms. Its pictured in the “Winchester Collector” calendar, June 2017, copy included with purchase. For domestic sale only.
