Description: Features 26 inch octagon barrel and full length mag tube. Correct Winchester sights include a German silver blade front and sporting rear as well as a thick base tang sight with 4 inch staff. Barrel has a plum/brown color with sharp corners and good markings. Mag tube has a good amount of blue turning plum. Casehardened receiver is in fine condition with sharp corners and thumbprint dust cover. Set trigger and crescent rifle style buttplate. Also features the early checkered wood with the heavy lines found on the first model. Retains a considerable amount of original finish with just a few mars and dings. All matching numbers. A very interesting gun. Serial number 14700 is a few numbers away from 3 others that are identical to this gun with the exception being they are 1 of 1,000's. They all have 26 inch barrels being unusual since they generally have 28 or 30 inch barrels if they are doing extra length. 26 inch barrels are quite scarce. I believe this gun was intended to be a 1 of 1,000 and perhaps they just didn't get an order for it. Who knows? This is a decent 73 with some interesting facts. Complete with a Factory Letter.
