Look for the gold '55 Chevy road sign! ~Trades and offers are always considered~ Desirable First Model 1873 Winchester Lever Action Repeating Rifle, .44-40 WCF, mfg. 1875. This is a wonderful early first model rifle made during the golden age of the American West. The standard length 24" round barrel retains it's original dovetailed blade front sight and adjustable buckhorn rear sight with correct straight-step elevator. Overall the metal has a smooth even dark plum patina with relatively sharp edges throughout. The stock retains an attractive untouched finish with good wood-to-metal fit. Aside from a very thin 1 1/2" long sliver missing along the front left edge of the lower tang (which is hardly worth noting) there are no further cracks, chips, or repairs. Original trapdoor buttplate (cleaning rod absent), hammer, lever, lever locking nut, thumbprint dustcover, screws, forend cap, and magazine retaining band. The lever locking nut does not catch the lever however there are no signs of alteration to either component. Clear original barrel address, model designation, and serial number "7142" marked on the lower tang. The brass carrier is sharp and has a lovely dark mustard patina. The action is smooth and crisp and functions perfectly. The dustcover is secure and still clicks into place. The bore shows clean sharp rifling front to back worn near the muzzle with moderate/heavy blackpowder frosting and fine pinprick surface pitting scattered throughout. A very attractive and pleasing original example of the iconic "gun that won the west"! Jeremiah Johnson Trading sells antique firearms manufactured prior to 1899 and muzzleloading blackpowder reproductions only. For the purpose of these conditions the term "antique firearm" will hence include muzzleloading blackpowder reproductions. Buyers must be 21 years of age or older and have no felony convictions to purchase antique firearms.
