Above Average Antique 1873 Winchester 44-40 With 24" Octagon Barrel. Near excellent Bright Bore. Some Finish. Perfect Like New Mechanics.
Description: !873 Winchester 44-40.. Here is a well above average 1873 Winchester in the very sought after 44-40 caliber and standard 24” octagon barrel.... S/N 411205 and was made in 1892.. The bore is near excellent and mostly bright and shiny with a little frosting in the groves.. Strong like new rifling clear to the muzzle and is not washed out from the steel cleaning rods used in the day.. No pitting, no rings or bulges. Well above average bore.. Mechanics are excellent and it feeds , fires and ejects like a new gun.. Very accurate for a 44-40.. Perfect half cock and full cock notches.. Excellent strong lever and carrier springs.. This ole 73 still retains a generous amount thinning blue on the receiver as you can see.. More on the left side than the right.. Just starting to turn to plumb but still blue in color.. Some nicer deeper blue on the lower tang were protected by the lever..The barrel and mag tube have turned a medium brown plumb color with some very light pin pricks mixing with some light surface crud but never cleaned on or messed with..Original front and rear sights. Original dust cover that is still tight as new and snaps shut with that magnetic feel like when new.. It opens perfectly like new with the lever throw of course.. Excellent markings throughout.. Even the 44 CAL. markings on the brass carrier are excellent and shows very little wear.. Mag tube fits tight to the barrel with no wobble.. The wood is near excellent as well.. Still fits tight and proud at the forearm.. The butt stock fits even to slightly proud with the metal … No bad splits or cracks but a very small sliver at the lower tang that is still in place.. Nothing has been sanded on or messed with.. No wear or chips at the toe.. Just shows honest use with the usual bumps and dings.. All of the screw heads are excellent and show little to no turning at all.. All in all, a very nice and desirable 1873 at a reasonable price compared to what I see 73's in this condition are selling for at the big sale houses.. This one is right out of my collection and I have had it since 2012.. Much better than the rough dirt brown ones with rough bores selling in this price range !!!! Call 765-728-8049 with any questions or more photos... It is hard to get all the way around a long gun with only 15 photos so please do not hesitate to ask for more of a certain area.. I want happy customers.. $50 insured shipping.. Don't miss this one.. One of the last 73's in 44-40 I will have for sale.. SOLD Antique: Yes |
