Description:
SOLD...Antique 1873 Winchester. Here is another nice 73. S/N 223287 and was made in 1886.. It is in the best shooting caliber 38-40.. It has a special order 28” octagon barrel. Cody work sheet is all correct and will be included with the sale..The bore is good with strong rifling. It shows some medium roughness roughness from black powder but no big craters and no rings or bulges. The gun has excellent mechanics and it feeds, fires and ejects perfectly and is shoots great !!!! No backed out primers and no bulges cases... This is why I love these in 38-40 because even with less than perfect bores, they all shoot great... Both hammer notches are perfect and positive. Carrier and lever springs are tight with no sagging lever..The gun is a medium brown patina and looks like someone long ago applied some cold blue to to the receiver. I have cleaned most of this off as I see no reason it was applied to start with ???? It looks good. A little pin prick pitting on the muzzle and the end of the mag tube {see photos }... And a little on the bottom of the receiver but nothing bad or detracting.. It has the original rear sight. The front sight has the original base but it looks like the blade has been replaced with the rocky mountain style blade... Has the original dust cover that shows an old filed in repair with silver or something who knows at the cover stop screw {see photo }.. Looks like someone long ago has cut or filled the screw to remove it and got into the cover. What an idiot.. I replaced the screw that was in it with the correct screw as it was not correct... It is what it is... The dust cover is a little loose as they all are in this condition but it still retracts with the lever throw and does not bind the action as they do when they are really loose and worn out. The cover has some mild pitting from black powder flash as does the receiver right in front of the dust cover as you can see in the photos... Nothing bad or detracting at all.. The screw heads for the most part are still sharp and clean and not all burred up from tinkering. Some do show some light turning but nothing bad and all are very serviceable.. The wood is nice.
