Antique 1873 Winchester 38-40 Octagon Barrel. Good Shooting Bore.. Test fired And Accurate.. MFG 1888.
Description:
SOLD...Antique 1873 Winchester.. Here is a standard and average 1873 Winchester in the very accurate 38-40 caliber.... S/N 231515 and was made in 1888.. Has the standard 24” octagon barrel.. The bore is good with good rifling with the normal roughness from black powder. Nothing bad as far as pitting and no rings or bulges.. Just shows light roughness with good rifling.. It feeds, fires and ejects perfectly.. No backed out primers or bulged cases. Both hammer notches are strong and positive.. It is still very accurate as I have test fired it as I do all of my Winchesters.. The lever does hang down a bit as the photo shows because of an aftermarket lever spring has been installed and it does not fit correctly.. It does not effect the function in any way.. It was like this when I got it in and I am out of correct lever springs for these 73's.. Easy fix if you desire or if I find one I can install it.. The lever lock does engage the lever tab correctly and holds the lever up tight.. The gun is just a brown gun with no finish remaining.. No bad spots and never messed with.. Metal is pretty smooth with the normal dings here and there but no abuse.. Has the original front sight and the rear being the slightly later flat top design.. Correct original dust cover that still retracts with the lever throw but is loose because of a missing dust cover spring.. The screw is still intact so an easy fix if you can find a spring.... These parts are drying up so I will be selling these guns as they come in if I do not have the correct original parts to repair them as I usually did when I had the parts.. The markings are very good and you can see the caliber markings on the brass carrier are a little weak from wear with some dents.. The wood is pretty decent..
