Antique 1873 Winchester 38-40 Octagon Barrel. Very Nice Bore. Excellent Mechanics. MFG 1890.
Description: SOLD...Winchester model 1873 38-40 octagon barrel. Here is a nice and honest 1873 Winchester. It is in the excellent shooting caliber 38-40. It has the standard 24” octagon barrel. S/N 353657 and made in 1890. Very nice looking rifle. The bore is very good and shows strong rifling and just minor roughness from black powder. No big craters, rings or bulges. Pretty nice bore on this one. It shoots as good as the day it was made and is still very accurate. The mechanics are all excellent. It feeds, fires and ejects perfectly. No bulged cases or backed out primers. Head space is perfect.. Both hammer notches are perfect and positive. Still has the original dust cover that is still very tight and retracts perfectly with the lever throw. The metal is a smooth aged gray to light brown patina. Not pitted anywhere and the markings are excellent. Brass carrier caliber markings are gone as is common on no finish guns. Has the original rear sight that has the flat top design with the adjustable plate. Front sight base is original but looks like the blade had been replaced but looks very good and very close to original. Does not detract from this ole 73 at all. All the screw heads are clean and sharp and not burred up from tinkering. The wood is very nice also. The forearm fits tight and pretty much even with the metal. NO splits or cracks. No bad scratches or dents either. The butt stock is very nice with no cracks or splits and a perfect fit to the metal. Just a little shy of the rear of the receiver on the upper left side. Looks like honest wear and not sanded on or messed with. Real nice looking wood on this one and better than you will usually find on a no finish gun. This is about all I can say on this one.. This is a very nice looking 73 and not messed with. Has a very nice bore and shoots great. Getting hard to find nice honest larger bore octagon barrel 73's that I can sell for less than $2000 anymore. I think you will be very pleased with this one. Call 765-728-8049 with any questions or more photos. $50 insured shipping. I will add that I am getting so many tele marketers calls every day I do not answer the phone anymore. They are getting that bad !!! I do however check my messages many time a day so if you call, please leave a message and I will return your call ASAP. Of course you can e-mail me no problem. Thank you for looking and check back very often. As I say, I get many calls after the gun has sold... SOLD Antique: Yes |
