Antique 1873 Winchester 38-40 Round Barrel. Very Good Bore. Never Messed With. Traces Blue.
Description: SOLD...Antique 1873 Winchester 38-40 round barrel. Here is a very nice and absolutely never messed with 1873 Winchester. It is in the most accurate caliber 38-40 which is by far my favorite for shooting. Has the standard 24” round barrel. S/N 223517 and made in 1887. The bore is very good with strong rifling throughout with just some minor roughness scattered as would be expected from these black powder rifles. NO rings or bulges and it shoots great .. The mechanics are excellent and it feeds, fires and ejects perfectly. Head space is perfect with no backed out primers and no bulged cases. Both hammer notches are perfect and positive. The markings are excellent. Even the brass carrier has excellent caliber markings as these are usually the first to be worn off. Still retains the original front and rear sights. Still retains the original dust cover that is still very tight even in the closed position and opens with the lever throw perfectly. It closes with that tight almost magnetic feel. Don't find these like this on low finish 73's but this gun is just tight all around. The metal has that right out of the attic look. Still has traces of blue on the sides of the receiver behind the side plates in good lighting. Also traces of blue on the lower tang where protected by the lever. The balance is an absolutely untouched dark brown patina with some very light surface crud and staining but never cleaned on or messed with. Just the way you like to find these old Winchesters. NO pitting on this gun anywhere. I took some photos in direct sun light so you can see the condition and also a few in shaded sun light for the markings so they were not washed out. The screws look like they have never been turned and still have dried oil and grease in the slots and around the heads. I usually take these apart to clean and do repairs but this one needed nothing and I am not touching the screws. The wood is excellent on this one also. NO splits or cracks on either the forearm or the butt stock. Shows the normal dents and dings from honest wear but NO abuse. The wood still fits tight and high to the metal and has never been sanded on or messed with at all. Still shows some original varnish on both pieces. I don't think the wood has even been removed from this one since new.!!! I know this is just another 1873 round barrel BUT you don't find these in this untouched never messed with condition much anymore. It is just that nice of a gun. This one shows very honest use and was very well taken care of throughout it's life and still is totally original in every way and has escaped the hands of tinkers and butchers over all these years is amazing. I have it priced accordingly compared to others that have not been so lucky to survive like this one has. Call 765-728-8049 with any questions or more photos. $50 insured shipping. Don't miss this one !!! Check back often and thank you for looking. SOLD Antique: Yes |
