Antique 1873 Winchester SRC. Set Trigger. Near Excellent Bore. 44-40. Excellent Mechanics.
Description: SOLD...Antique 1873 Winchester SRC 44-40 with set trigger. Here is about an average looking 73 SRC. Very early third model S/N 116328 and made in 1883. Also has a special order set trigger. The set trigger looks like it is missing the tiny adjustment screw but still has a very safe and positive trigger pull. The bore is near excellent. Very hard to find these SRC's with such nice bores. NO pitting and just light frosting but strong and sharp rifling all the way through. NO rings or bulges. Just really an outstanding bore for one of these. Best bore I have ever seen on a SRC and better than I have in my personal collection. If you are a shooter and have been looking for one with a super bore, then this is it !!! The mechanics are all excellent. It feeds, fires and ejects perfectly with no bulged cases or backed out primers. This one still has all the original parts as far as the correct rear and front sights. Original dust cover that still retracts with the lever throw. Original saddle ring. Honest gun and never messed with. The metal is a smooth medium brown patina with NO pitting. Never cleaned on or messed with. All the markings are still excellent and not worn off like so many SRC's you see. These were very hard used guns and most have worn or missing markings. The caliber markings on the brass elevator show some wear but still very easily seen. The wood does have some issues as most you see will have. The forearm still fits tight but shows a couple grain splits on the end and shows wear at the end also {see photos}.. NO other major issues. The butt stock shows heavy wear along the upper and lower tang as you can see. Still fits tight with no looseness anywhere. There is an old sling swivel hole on the bottom from long ago.{see photo}. No other issues with the stock. No other splits or cracks. Has the correct butt plate with trap door hole for the cleaning rods but no rods. The screws for the most part are clean and not all burred up and all are totally serviceable. All in all, this is a pretty decent ole SRC. The wood has a few issues and shows lots of honest wear but no abuse. You have to remember these were very heavily used guns in the day and most are much worse in this price range. The special order set trigger and the near perfect bore easily make up fpr the wood so I am going to price this as I see it. You won't find one with a better bore at this price. I am in no hurry to sell it either as I really like nice bores. $50 insured shipping. Don't miss this one!!! Call 765-728-8049 with any questions or more photos. SOLD Antique: Yes |
