Rare Winchester 1873 1st Model Saddle Ring Carbine .44-40. Rare Winchester 1873 .44-40 caliber saddle ring carbine. Made in 1874. .44-40 with a 20” barrel. Reasonably sharp gun with a smooth gray patina. All markings are sharp and legible. Wood is very good and all original. Very good strong bore with some spots of pitting. Magazine tube has water etching/pitting where it laid up against something. Very rare to find a 1st Model Winchester 1873 saddle ring carbine. The dust cover on this gun looks original to this gun, but should be a raised thumb print dust cover. This could be a transitional gun, or it could be a period replacement. Very fine Winchester 1873 1st Model Saddle Ring Carbine!
