Special Order Winchester 1873 Deluxe with 28 Inch Barrel, Case Hardened 38-40 with Cody Museum Letter

Guns by Sally-always the best for less. We are so proud to offer this stunning example of the gun that won the West, the Winchester model 1873. This particular rifle is decked out in deluxe trim, with a highly figured and checkered walnut stock, including a pistol grip with an ebony inlay. The receiver and trim were ordered as color case hardened, and the icing on the cake is the 28 inch barrel, 4 inches longer than standard. She is chambered in 38-40, which is the least common centerfire cartridge available on this model. All features are verified by the included Cody Firearms Museum letter. Made in the year of our Lord 1888, she is in wonderful condition for being 135 years old. She received wonderful care, as there are minimal handling marks, and the stampings are all very clear. The blue of the barrel has drifted to a pleasant patina, the magazine tube retaining much more blue. The receiver and lever have generous amounts of case color left, not so much on the hammer, butt plate, and forend cap. The action is smooth and crisp, and the half cock safety works as designed. The bore of the long barrel is very good, quite bright with sharp rifling. The 38-40 is actually a .40 caliber, but Winchester did not wish to confuse by having a 40-40 and a 44-40. The upper tang bears the assembly number 1981, which is repeated on the stock and butt plate. XX is also on the tang, denoting the fancy wood. The rear sight is the early type, with knurled sides to diffuse glare. These early deluxe guns are highly sought after, and their value continues to climb. There are several others on the market, and this one will be quite competitive. If you have been looking for the right '73 to collect, for investment, or for that nostalgic hunt, but want the added clout of a lettered special order deluxe, then look no further.
