SPECIAL ORDER Winchester Model 1873 2nd Model 44 WCF Rifle
Description: DESCRIPTION: 2nd Model Winchester Model 1873 rifle having the screwed-on dust cover rail, serial number 74159, made and shipped in 1881 and made on the carbine frame as evidenced by the two factory-plugged saddle ring holes on the left side of the receiver, a somewhat common occurence in this serial range as the factory ran out of rifle receivers due to the high volume of rilfe sales. This particular rifle is a special order specimen, having a 26" full octagon barrel 2" longer than standard and a single set trigger. All other features - plain walnut stocks, full magazine, and crescent butt - are standard. Copy of Cody email sheet will accompany the rifle for the purchaser. This one even still has the correct, original 4 piece cleaning rod in the trap of the butt stock. CONDITION: Barrel retains 90% bright original blue with some spots of light oxidation staining. Receiver retains 75% original bright blue with some light spots of oxidation staining and the balance toning to patina. Butt plate, lever, hammer and fore end cap have basically silvered out but do show traces of the original case colors. Mag tube has toned to an even patina with 75% original blue still present in the protected areas near the barrel flats. Original sights include the correct early series 21 front sight with German silver blade and correctly lacking the set screw. Original short-style rear sight with checkered edges and correct elevator also present. Stocks have never been cleaned sanded or refinished and do not have any extra holes or splits or cracks. In fact, the stocks show very little use at all with only a few light dings and nicks, still tight to metal except at toe of butt plate where it was common for wear to occur. Half cock safety functions as it should. Set trigger adjusting screw is present but set trigger will not set so some repair is needed; still will operate and fire in the normal mode. Bore is stone mint, a 9.5 of 10, blindingly bright and shiny with very sharp rifling. Brass elevator is properly unmarked and has turned a nice mellow mustard color. Likewise, barrel is properly not caliber marked. All other markings are very sharp and clear. Grades NRA Antique Fine and a beautiful special order 2nd Model Winchester 1873 rifle to add to your collection! TERMS: No international sales.
