Special Order Winchester Model 1873 Rifle
Description: DESCRIPTION: Winchester Model 1873 rifle with special order 28" full octagon barrel and full magazine, standard crescent butt, caliber 32 WCF aka 32-20, plain trigger, correct butt plate without trap door, semi-buckhorn rear sight with thumb print elevator and standard German silver blade front sight. Copy of factory letter included with rifle shows the serial # 563890 applied on 10/2/1902, confirms the features, received in warehouse 9/26/1903 and shipped 9/28/1903 to order # 202761. Recently acquired from a local collector. CONDITION: Receiver shows traces of original blue around the sideplates, otherwise has turned patina. Brass carrier is a mellowed mustard color. Traces of case color on hammer. Lever, butt plate and fore end cap silver/patina mix. Barrel retains 60% fine aged blue/plum and magazine tube has 80% of same with some brighter blue present. Very small dent in bottom of mag tube does not affect function. Bore is very good, no pits or craters, no rings or bulges, just consistent but used rifling, about a 7 of 10 and previous owner stated it's a "good shooter." Fore end wood is sound with no splits or cracks, just normal dings and scratches, never sanded or refinished. Butt stock has a crack coming in from the lower butt plate screw hole, otherwise it's in the same condition as the fore end. No extra holes anywhere. Factory letter mentions "German silver knife blade" front sight but that is long gone and a standard front sight installed. Mag tube is tight with no wobble and original dust cover is also tight with no side-to-side play. Action is strong and half cock safety functions properly. Grades NRA Antique Very Good and is a way better than average 1873 for this caliber and configuration as most were beat and shot out. Nice collector and shooter!! TERMS: No international sales.
