Untouched Documented Model 1873 Winchester Deluxe Lever Action Rifle Casehardened Fancy Checkered Pistol Grip 1888
Description: Untouched Documented Special Order Model 1873 Winchester Deluxe Lever Action Repeating Rifle with Fancy Checkered Stock, Pistol Grip, & Casehardened Frame, .32-20 WCF, mfg. 1888. This rifle was obtained directly from the family who owned it for generations and has never been publicly offered for sale. Pictures don't do it justice, it's just as honest and unmolested as one could ever hope to find! The 24" long octagon retains it's original adjustable buckhorn rear sight with an 1890's vintage Lyman #5 flip-up globe front sight fitted in period. Likewise a Lyman No. 1 adjustable tang sight probably intended for a Marlin or Stevens was also installed which has clearly been on the gun forever. Base of staff is marked “PAT. JAN. 29 79”. We have not removed it but can see that only the factory front screw was used to mount the sight and luckily the tang was not drilled for the rear screw of the shorter base. Barrel and magazine tube have turned a dark plum/chocolate patina with traces of original bluing remaining between the two and along the forearm. Special order casehardened frame has largely faded to a silvery/plum patina but has some very vivid swirls of case color visible along the top and rear sides and on the hammer. Sharp edges throughout with very fine surface oxidation freckling scattered overall. Fancy checkered pistol grip stock is highly figured (probably XXX grade) with beautiful fiery grain and rich dark color. It retains about 80% factory original finish with perfect wood-to-metal fit, extremely sharp original checkering, and no chips or cracks whatsoever. Complete with original ebony pistol grip inlay. Clear barrel address, caliber markings, and serial number “284381” stamped on lower tang. Original buttplate, screws, hammer, trigger, lever & locking but, dustcover, forend cap, and magazine tube band. The band has some very very minor lateral movement to one side which is hardly worth noting. The action is perfectly crisp and functions flawlessly in every regard. One of the best actions I've felt on a ‘73 in some time, it feels like new. The dustcover even clicks shut. Bore is fairly bright with very sharp rifling and light/moderate superfine blackpowder frosting throughout. Factory letter included. A very very sharp “newly discovered” Deluxe ’73 with a fantastic look that's never been fooled with or taken apart! Jeremiah Johnson Trading sells antique arms manufactured prior to 1899 and muzzleloading blackpowder reproductions only. For the purpose of these conditions the term "antique arms" will also include muzzleloading blackpowder reproductions. Buyers must be 21 years of age or older and have no felony convictions to purchase antique arms. This timeframe begins once the package is delivered by the carrier. Buyer's remorse or concerns over issues noted in the description and/or pictures is not a valid excuse for return. Returned items must be received in the same condition as originally shipped - cleaning, disassembly, alteration, or damage of any kind will void inspection privileges. Occasionally a post-1898 firearm from my personal collection may be sold under this account and any such transaction is a personal sale in no way affiliated with Jeremiah Johnson Trading. Any such arm will be shipped to a licensed FFL or C&R holder in accordance with Federal law. All antique arms are sold as collector's items and are not warranted safe for shooting.
