Very Fine Near Excellent Antique 1873 Winchester 38-40 Octagon Barrel. Very Good Bore And Lots of Finish!!!!
Description: SOLD....Excellent antique 1873 Winchester 38-40 octagon barrel. Collector grade... Here is a way above average 1873 Winchester. The gun has quite a bit of original blue finish. Has the standard 24” octagon barrel. It is in the best shooting caliber 38-40. S/N 134810 and made in 1883 so it is a fairly early 3rd model. The bore is VERY good with very strong and deep rifling all the way through. Just shows some minor black powder roughness but no deep pitting or craters. NO rings or bulges.. Just a very nice bore on this one. This gun has been very well taken care of over all these years as you can see. Mechanics are excellent of course. It feeds, fires and ejects perfectly with no bulged cases or backed out primers. Very accurate to say the least !!!! The finish is great and untouched in any way. Never messed with. The barrel has at least 40% to 50% blue just slightly thinning but still very nice.... Most all the deep and bright blue is still remaining on the lower protected flats by the mag tube. The mag tube has a little thinning blue where protected by the barrel. The receiver has some very nice and deep bright blue as you can see. Both sides have about 30% to 40% … The lower tang has all of the bright and deep blue but thinned out in the S/N area... The top of the receiver on both sides of the hammer still has all the bright and deep blue. The original dust cover even retains about 15% to 20% thinning blue. The lower receiver below the brass carrier still has some nice thinning blue also. I skipped the close up photos of the S/N because I wanted to use the photos to catch the great blue remaining on this gun. I can send those photos or any other area you might want to see. The hammer still has traces of case colors and most all of the bright and vivid case colors are still on the inner face. The lever case colors have pretty much faded but when you open the lever but you can see all the bright case colors where it joins the receiver. The balance of the gun is a wonderful untouched plum brown patina. No pitting or rough spots. Never cleaned on or messed with.. The wood is excellent as well. The forearm fits tight , full and proud to the metal with no splits or cracks and shows just minor and normal dings and scratches. The butt stock fits tight and full with no splits or cracks with just the same very minor dings and scratches. The wood on this gun looks like it has never been removed from the gun as it fits that tight !!! Gun still has the original front and rear sights. The dust cover is still reasonably tight and retracts perfectly with the lever throw. The screws are crisp and clean and show no turning but the right forearm cap screw and the main spring adjustment screw show a little turning. Nothing burred up bad from tinkering. All are absolutely serviceable. The markings are all excellent. This is a very nice and well above average 1873 than the gray brown guns you see. Of course it costs a little more but is well worth it... This is a very clean and with no issues 73 Winchester... Getting so hard to find these with this much finish that I can still sell for less than $3000.... I should be keeping this one for myself but I can't keep'em all !!!! Don't miss this one folks... Call 765-728-8049 for more photos or any questions you might have. My descriptions are very detailed as are my photos but I want happy customers.. so if there is something you want to see like the S/N or ??? just let me know. Shop around and compare, then call me fast .... Collector grade. SOLD Antique: Yes |
