VERY INTERESTING WINCHESTER MODEL 1873 SADDLE RING CARBINE IN CALIBER 44-40 SRC
Description: Apparently Winchester shipped this gun to a pretty tough neighborhood. It has 1/2 inch by 3/4 inch hole in the buttplate that could only have been caused by a bullet going through the buttplate and into the stock. The stock is missing a piece of wood about 2 inches by 4 inches. It had a frontier gunsmith repair but after removing the repair it was obvious what happened. The gun is in the 300k range. A third model with correct dust cover and original sights. Overall plum/ blue color and appears to be untouched except for the bullet damage. This must have happened when it was a relatively new gun. The upper buttplate screw is frozen and I can't get it out. All the screws appear original with some being buggered. Correct saddle ring and nice functioning action. The dark bore would benefit from a good cleaning. You could definitely brag that this 1873 has "been there and done that"! This would make a great addition to any Winchester collection and a real conversation piece. A 73 that is a real tribute to our American Heritage which is rapidly disappearing.
