VERY RARE 1873 1ST MODEL RIFLE WITH SPECIAL ORDER 32 INCH BARREL AND FACTORY ENGRAVED
Description:
This is only the 2nd one I have encountered that had the factory engraving on the barrel only. It has engraving in several places, up by the muzzle, by the receiver and about midway on each side. The gun is in the 6k serial range. If you had a longer barrel than a standard gun, the barrel retaining ring would be back from the muzzle about 11-12 inches. Looks very unusual but that is how they did it on the 1st models. Shortly after 7 or 8,000 serial number they would start putting in 2 rings like they did on all the other guns. The Factory Letter has all the features listed. This gun has been restored by Turnbull and the work is excellent. The gun retains all of that new blue and vivid case colors. Wood is in excellent condition. Sights include typical Winchester front sight and a large buckhorn rear sight. Barrel markings are very good. Mechanics are excellent. Correct thumbprint dust cover. A very interesting 1873 that looks great. Some aging and it will look even better.
