Winchester 1873 Second Model Rifle 44 Cal. Mfd. 1881 Antique
Description: Antique Winchester Model 1873 rifle in caliber 44-40 (44 WCF), standard configuration of 24" octagon barrel, full magazine and crescent butt, made and shipped in 1881. Second model having the external trigger pin and screwed on dust cover rail. Stocks are sound, no splits, no cracks, no extra holes, exhibiting typical dings and usage marks expected of a 130+ year old rifle. Receiver is basically gray with little traces of original finish. Butt plate, barrel and mag tube are a dark patina with mottling and surface oxidation. Original Rocky Mountain front sight and later Winchester flat top rear sight with thumb print elevator. No cleaning rods in trap door of butt stock; door slides freely. Good action and half-cock safety is functioning properly. Good bore with plenty of sharp rifling and typical black powder use/scattered pitting, no rings or bulges. Should spin a bullet fine. Also happens to be one of the odd ones built on a carbine frame because the factory was out of rifle receivers - note the two factory plug screws where the saddle ring would be on the shooter's left side of the receiver - this feature is most often found in this serial range and is not common. Dust cover seems to be a later 3rd model replacement but is Winchester. Overall a good representative piece. No international sales. Antique by ATF standards so no FFL or C&R required unless your local laws require it, so make sure this is legal for you to purchase and own where you live. Will ship by USPS Priority Mail in a hard case with tracking for $65. Payment by bank check, money order, or discreet PayPal with a 4% surcharge. 3 day non-firing inspection. Buyer pays return shipping. Thanks for looking and please check my other listings.
