Winchester Model 1873 44 WCF Rifle Second Model, Special Order
Description: ***** MY BUY NOW PRICE INCLUDES SHIPPING - ANY NEGOTIATED PRICE LOWER THAN THE BUY NOW WILL INCUR SHIPPING FEES ***** Winchester Model 1873 rifle, caliber 44 WCF aka 44-40. This is a Second Model having the screwed-on dust cover rail. Features a special order 28" long octagon barrel with full magazine, 4" longer than standard. The plain walnut stocks, plain trigger, crescent butt with rifle style trap door butt plate, blued and case hardened finish, open sights, are all standard features. Cody Musuem email sheet confirms configuration and shows a Sept. 15, 1881 ship date to order number 27859 (will be provided). CONDITION: All metal parts retain 10% original finish that have drifted to patina/gray. Bore is a 6 of 10 with evident rifling, some pitting, a light ring but no bulge about 8" down from the muzzle, properly working action including the half cock safety. Stocks have been lightly cleaned, still tight and proud in most locations. Assembly numbers match on upper inletting of butt stock and left side of lower tang. Mag tube is tight with no wobble. Sights have been replaced with later Winchester rear and Lyman front sights. Proper for this vintage, there is no caliber marking on the barrel and brass cartridge lifter. In all, it grades NRA Antique Good. The extra long barrel, desirable caliber, and Second Model receiver are all highly collectible features. Not a mint specimen by any means, it still will nicely fill a void in any Winchester collection. TERMS: No international sales and no sales to Alaska or Hawaii.
