Winchester Model 1873 Deluxe First Model, Many Features, Cody Lettered
Description: Winchester Model 1873 Full Deluxe First Model rifle serial # 13566. Factory records in the letter from the Cody Museum state: Type: Rifle Barrel type: Octagon Barrel length: 28" Trigger: Set XXX Checkered stock Casehardened Received in the warehouse on December 31, 1874 Shipped from the warehouse on January 4, 1875, Order number 4987 Rifle remains completely original and untouched in its factory configuration. Of course it is caliber 44 as all the First Models were and has a full magazine since that fact is not stated in the records unless its a special length. Set trigger fuctions properly, as does the half-cock safety. Bore is very good. Original checkering in good condition with some wear and scratches but never recut. Original XXX stocks are also in very good condition, never sanded or refinished, no extra holes, no splits or cracks, just normal usage wear and slight shrinkage of forearm due to age (is a tad loose and has a very small gap due to drying out and shrinking; common on a rifle this old). Still has original lever latch, dust cover, and screw-in type magazine tube end cap, as well as the short sporting rear sight common to the First Model and early Second Model 1873s. Has a Rocky Mountain front sight that's been there forever as finish matches rifle but no mention in factory records. Traces of silvery mottled case colors in the protected areas around the sideplates and part of the receiver, otherwise case colors have grayed out over time. Removal of the sideplates shows the number "566" stamped on the inside of each, indicating the last 3 digits of the serial number and matching the case colored sideplates to the rifle. Barrel and mag tube are a deep patina with lots of coverage and normal wear to the octagon edges. Trap door for buttplate and brass carrier block remain uncleaned and that nice mustard color you want to see on these old rifles. Naturally no caliber marking on barrel or carrier block. Assembly numbers match on lower tang and upper inletting of buttstock. No wobble to mag tube. Action is still quite crisp with no hang-up. Fully functional and highly collectible First Model 1873 rifle with many special features that is sure to appreciate in value over time. Antique so no FFL required. Factory letter will be included with rifle. For the past 30 years I have specialized in antique and vintage Winchester firearms, parts, sights, accessories and collectible ammunition. Combined from various internet sites, I have over 650 positive transaction feedbacks, so you can feel confident that my items are presented and described honestly.
