Winchester Model 1873 in scarce 22 Long caliber (conversion from short)
Description: Very sharp Winchester 1873 in scarce 22 Long caliber. A recent record search has revealed that this rifle actually letters as a 22 S, so it was apparently converted to 22 Long some time later. The caliber stamp is not directly on top of the barrel but off to the side. Both the barrel and receiver have legit factory proof stamps, which according to some, all indicate that the conversion was likely done by the factory during a later era of production, although this has not been noted on the Cody Museum research letter which I requested. S/N 556090 made in 1901. The rifle shows strong original bluing throughout with very little wear beyond some typical modest flaking and toning of the receiver. The wood finish is also excellent and bright. There is an old repaired longitudinal age crack on the upper left forearm. The buttstock has had some flutes added to forward portion of comb. It wears a correct crescent plate in very good condition. 24" octagon barrel with a very good-excellent bright bore. Full length magazine tube complete with an immaculate condition, specialized inner loading plunger. Factory option sights include a folding Lyman combination front and Winchester sporting rear. All mechanical functions are crisp and proper. A unique and very sharp rifle in hand. Comes with the Cody Museum research letter previously mentioned. Expedited and fully insured shipping from Alaska is additional $100. SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes |
