Winchester Model 1873 Lever Action Rifle Chambered in .22 Short Caliber **Honest and True - Fully Functional**
Description:
Here we have an honest and true 1894 mfg Winchester Model 1873 lever action rifle chambered in .22 short caliber. The Model 1873 was one of the most successful Winchester rifles of its day, with Winchester marketing it as "The Gun that Won the West". The Model 1873 .22 Rimfire Rifle was the first .22 caliber repeating rifle in America was introduced in 1884 and discontinued in 1904. Winchester sold a little more than 19,000 .22 caliber Model 1873s. This particular example is a third model 1873 as the dust cover slides along a guide rail machined into the receiver. The rimfire versions are unique in that they have no loading gate on the right side of the receiver - they are loaded through the front end of the magazine tube. The 24 inch barrel has a rear sight adjustable for elevation and a dovetailed blade front. The bore is pitted but it does have some rifling. This example does have the trigger block engaged by the lever to allow the rifle to fire. If this gun could talk it would likely tell tales of over 100 years of adventure - it would make a great addition to an existing collection or a wonderful way to start a new one.
