Winchester Model 1873 - 1st Model Rifle - Cal. .44 - 24" octagon barrel - SN 26XX(1874) with special order wood and set trigger. Bore is bright with sharp rifling but shows moderate roughness throughout - about VG+. Action is excellent and very smooth - good lock-up, extraction, and ejection - set trigger. Metal is about excellent overall with some light surface spotting - no rust, heavy pitting, or corrosion. Barrel and magazine tube retain 45% - 50% thinning to a gray-brown patina - receiver about 40% with thinning to a gray-brown. Wood is XX0 with super grain showing in the buttstock - forend has a very fine, light and tight split on the upper left front portion that is about 4" long - otherwise wood is undamaged and retains 85% or better finish overall 4-piece cleaning rod in buttstock. An early M-1873 1st Model, all original, in VG+ to Fine condition overall with special order features and letter of verification from Cody. Early 1st models are getting hard to find and this one will make a nice addition to an early Winchester collection.
