Winchester Model 1873 Rifle in 44-40 44 WCF Outstanding!
Description:
Very high condition antique Winchester 1873 rifle in desirable 44-40 caliber. Exceptional condition throughout with only a few mentionable discrepancies to the all original finishes.
S/N 228030 made in 1887.
24" round barrel with full length magazine tube.
Very fine receiver blue with a deep, even tone, minimal use marks or edge wear, and virtually no underside carry wear. The barrel is not far behind, with strong and even blue over most, but does show some scattered pin prick erosion on left side, and a subtle but present patch of light scrubbing on the right side. The case colors are vivid on the hammer and lever and are also present but more subdued on the buttplate. The magazine tube has an even finish throughout its length with a slight browning patina undertone. The loading gate retains a vivid fire/nitro blue. The buttplate is a trap door crescent style with no cleaning rods present.
The wood set is very fine with no significant mars nor cracks. It has never been sanded and retains virtually all of its original finish. The sheen is slightly shiny, suggesting a very thin topcoat of a hardening oil finish for maintenance at some point.
Original sights consist of a German silver front and Winchester sporting rear.
The bore on this rifle looks virtually new and the mechanical functions are tight, crisp, and proper.
An overall outstanding and exceedingly tough to find 137 y.o. survivor of this often battered model.
Please add $100 for expedited and fully insured shipping from Alaska in a custom cut foam lined box.
