Winchester Model 1873 Special Order Second Model, Great Condition
Description:
Very nice Winchester Second Model 1873 rifle in caliber 44 WCF (44-40) with 30" octagon barrel, full magazine, and working set trigger. Rifle letters as such, was received in the warehouse 12/30/1881 and shipped 1/3/1882 to order # 30599. Serial # in the 81xxx range and, due to the lack of rifle frames, was built on a cabine frame as evidenced by the factory-filled saddle ring holes on the left side of the receiver. Fresh out of a collection, this rifle retains 65-70% original bright receiver blue with the balance turning patina, 75-80% bright original barrel blue and about 50% deep original blue on the mag tube with the balance plum. Stocks are in excellent shape showing only minimal use, still extremely tight and proud, no splits or cracks, never sanded or refinished, no extra holes and no abuse. Assembly numbers match on the lower tang, toe of buttplate, and upper inletting of buttstock. Action is crisp and strong and the half-cock safety feature is functioning properly. Rifle cycles ammo just fine. Bore is very good to excellent, about an 8.5 of 10, showing only mininmal wear and dullness, no frost, no pits, no crates and no rings. As is proper for the period, the barrel is not marked with the caliber. Likewise, the carrier block is correctly unmarked and retains that uncleaned mustard color you want to see.
