WOW 1st Model Deluxe Winchester Model 1873 Rifle with Cody Info
Description: DESCRIPTION: 1st Model Deluxe Winchester Model 1873 rifle, caliber 44 WCF of course, with all of the following features confirmed by Cody Museum email sheet: Rifle, 28 inch octagon barrel (4" longer than standard), full magazine, set trigger, checkered stock, casehardened receiver, sling and swivels, received in warehouse on August 28, 1876 and shipped the same day on order number 6836. Copy of Cody info sheet is pictured and will be included with the rifle. All of the correct 1st model features are present: thumbprint dust cover that slides in integral frame rails, round lever latch, screw-in magazine tube end plug, thicker butt plate with longer top leg and with sliding trap door, short cloverleaf style rear sight, and as far as caliber goes, unmarked barrel and brass carrier block. Also sports a Rocky Mountain front sight typical to the extra long rifles. Correct 1st style checkering and correct early sling swivels. Extreme care was used in removing the butt stock and butt plate, revealing XXX on the lower tang for the grade of fancy walnut, as well as the number 6 for the assembly number, which matches in the upper inletting of the butt stock and at the toe of the butt plate. This rifle is 100% original and correct!! CONDITION: Case hardened frame has the typical mottled nickel-silver appearance with traces of case color present. Barrel and mag tube have 70% coverage of an even plum patina. Barrel edges are still sharp and magazine tube is still tight with no wobble. Butt stock has a deep gouge about 1" long on the right side and light wear to the checkering, slight wear loss at toe, otherwise in excellent condition with no other real issues and no other dings/dents or scratches. Fore arm shows a few dings and scratches, with some loss due to wear by the receiver from carry, as noted by the total wear to the checkering on the bottom from carry or saddle use. Action is tight and crisp. Half cock safety functions as it should. Set trigger also works as it should, a bonus as many are worn and inoperative. Bore is good, a 7 of 10, with minor scattered light black powder pitting, consistent rifling breech to muzzle, some shine but some grayness, should still shoot great if you want to with light loads after a checkup by a competent gunsmith. Dust cover spring screw has been ground flat so no groove remains, and the dust cover is very tight when attempting to push it forward, yet it moves freely to the rear when the action is cycled. No cleaning rods present in trap of butt stock. Overall Grades NRA Antique Fine and quite a great old 1st model to add to your Winchester collection!! TERMS: No international sales. Antique so it can ship directly to you assuming your local laws allow it. Payment by bank check, money order, personal check, or all major credit cards with 3% convenience fee. 3 day non-firing inspection. Buyer pays return shipping.
