Winchester 1873-SRC (Saddle Ring Carbine), 3rd Variation, 134XXX(1883 mfgr), 44WCF with G-G+ bore, showing medium wear, scale and lead build-up, but looking like it will clean a little better and still be good at shorter yardages (…which is about all one should expect from one of these hard-used carbines) and it has a smooth tight action. It does have the correct carbine sights with the elevated 1873 dated ladder style rear barrel sight, post front sight, original dust cover, and saddle ring. Overall this little carbine has REALLY decent metal with good markings and a light very smooth grey patina . Very good
carbine barrel address (which in most carbines is usually quite worn from carrying in saddle scabbards) and excellent replaced wood with no dents, wear, or any other deficits other than some light chipping on the top tang channel (see photo). It is getting very, VERY difficult to find almost ANY ‘73 Winchester carbine in any usable condition these days, and this one is a very decent specimen and average bore in the highly sought after 44/40 caliber. After some additional cleaning and a qualified gunsmiths blessing, this should be a good “cowboy action” shooter!! VG-VG+ as described.
