Antique 1873 Winchester .38-40 Caliber Octagon Barrel. Very Nice Bore. Excellent mechanics. Great Looking 73.!!!
Description:
SOLD...Antique 1873 Winchester 24” octagon barrel 38-40 caliber. Here is a most honest and never messed with 1873 Winchester. Has the standard 24” octagon barrel and is in the best shooting caliber 38-40. S/N 403211 and made in 1891. The bore is very good to near excellent. Still has some shine with very strong rifling visible. Just some very light roughness but no big pits or craters and no rings or bulges. Way better than the average bore that you usually will find. The mechanics are excellent and it feeds, fires and ejects perfectly. It shoots great as you would expect and very accurate. This is why I love these in 38-40 caliber. They always shoot great even the ones with rough bores. All the markings are very good but the caliber markings shows a little wear from handling and honest use. Still has the original front and rear sights. Original dust cover that still retracts with the lever throw although it is still loose when closed as most all of these are. I think this one just needs a new spring and it would be much tighter. The metal is a smooth medium to dark brown patina. Has that right out of the attic look to it. No pitting but just a small spot on the end of the barrel and mag tube. All the screw heads look untouched and show no signs of turning or abuse.. The wood is very nice as well. The forearm has no splits or cracks and just a couple very small scratches. It fits very tight and is in excellent condition. The butt stock has no splits or cracks and again just a couple small minor scratches. It fits very tight but just a very little shy at the upper tang and toes of the butt plate from honest wear and use. Might have been very lightly cleaned at one time but not abused. It still looks and fits great and tight with no issues. Over all this is a very nice and clean looking 73 Winchester that shows honest use but never abused or messed with. Unmolested 73's are getting harder to find at reasonable prices under $2000 anymore. This one would fit very well in a nice mid range collection and will make a great shooter also. Call 765-728-8049 with any questions or more photos. $50 insured shipping. Thank you for looking and check back often.
