Description: ATTRACTIVE EARLY 1873 SADDLE RING CARBINE, .38-40 CALIBER, #123XXX, MADE 1883. This one shows fine aged blue on the receiver that is mixing with a nice plum/brown and shows no signs of cleaning or steel-wooling. Similarly, the barrel and mag are ageing to a plum/brown with a little gray mixing on the mag tube bottom. Fine barrel and tang markings, saddle ring intact, original carbine ladder rear sight with slide intact, brass lifter marked "38 CAL" and the original dust cover is intact. Butt stock and forend may have been lightly cleaned and show only modest wear with one usual age crack coming back from the tip of the forend on the bottom left- minor and barely worth mentioning. Forend shows light saddle wear. Tight action with strong safety half-cock on the hammer. The bore is slightly dark with some frost, but strong rifling all the way through. A 141 year old 1873 carbine with a fine appearance.
