VERY HIGH CONDITION 1873 .44-40 OCTAGON RIFLE, #445XXX, MADE 1893
Description: VERY HIGH CONDITION 1873 .44-40 OCTAGON RIFLE, #445XXX, MADE 1893. This is one of the finest 1873s I’ve been able to offer in a long time. It seems most of the higher condition examples are in .32-20 or .38-40. .44-40 caliber octagon rifles like this are really hard to find. This example retains about all the deep barrel blue with only a small spot or two of the most minor wear. The receiver also shows most of the deep blue with only light edge wear and some browning on the receiver ring and blue mixing plum on the upper tang. The original dust cover retains excellent blue. The mag tube blue has aged to plum/brown. Excellent screws and excellent butt stock and forearm with very tight wood to metal fit. Buckhorn rear sight paired with a Lyman patented 1885 short blade/ivory bead front sight. Bore is bright and excellent with sharp rifling! This 126 year old .44-40 Winchester is head and shoulders above most that seem to surface these days. $4250. (I know I'd rather have one like this in my collection than have two average ones at half the price each!)
