Winchester 1873 First model Good condition with Winchester Tang sight
Description:
Here is an interesting old Winchester. It has one of the earliest serial numbers I've seen- V29xx, made in 1875 a year before the James gang raided Northfield, Minnesota. Bore is surprisingly good with very little roughness and good rifling. I would rate it at a 7 on a 1-10 scale. Action works as it should. The metal has a splotchy appearance with no original finish to speak of. The wood is sound, tight, and has a very good wood/metal fit. The barrel sights look original and the tang sight is Winchester's 62A, made for the 1873 specifically. The 4 piece cleaning rod is in the butt stock. Wood is sound and retains a fair amount of original finish, This is a nice solid old rifle that was taken care of well but the metal finish surrendered to age. $100 shipping and insurance to your door in most states. Rifle has a set trigger that works fine. A call from an interested person caused me to relook at the serial number. What I thought was a "v" is actually just 2 nicks in the metal which don't join at the bottom. This serial number is just numbers and I should look closer when I see something that doesn't fit what I've seen before..
