Winchester ~ 1873 London Retail Marked ~ .44-40 Winchester
Description:
Made in 1883, this Winchester 1873 is in it's original configuration with a 24" round barrel, plain trigger, and an altered shotgun stock that was added before shipping out of the warehouse. This rifle has a 3rd model receiver with integral dust cover rail and dust cover with serrations at the rear. The London retailer marking appears on the dust cover, "H. DICKINSON/2 UNION ROW MINORIES,/LONDON". London proof marks are stamped on the left side of the barrel and receiver near the breech. Two line Winchester address/King's patent mark and correctly lacks caliber marking. Fine finish, retaining 60% of the original bluing with a balance of smooth brown patina and a mottled gray patina on the buttplate. Minor pitting that is mostly on the buttplate, and 30% of Nitre Blue remains on the loading gate & 40% case colors remain on the hammer and lever. Wood has minor handling marks and a couple hairline stress cracks at the fore-end cap. Mechanically Excellent. SN: 119762A .44-40 Winchester
