*Sale Pending* - WINCHESTER SECOND MODEL 1876 RIFLE IN CALIBER 45-75
Description: This fine rifle features a 28 inch octagon barrel chambered in 45-75 caliber with a full length magazine tube that shows most original blue starting to thin and turn brown on the high points. Excellent bore that is bright and shiny with strong rifling. Sights include a Rocky Mountain blade front and an "1876" marked folding ladder rear and a thick base tang mounted peep sight. Casehardened forearm cap, hammer, lever and receiver show 70% vibrant colors. Crescent buttplate shows only trace case coloring. Equipped with a Set trigger. Walnut stocks are solid and full fitting showing most original finish with typical handing marks. Comes with an interesting Winchester letter showing it was originally manufactured as a 50 Caliber Express Rifle with a 1/2 Octagon Barrel, a Checkered Light stock, Casehardened, a Set Trigger and received into the warehouse June 30, 1880. After sitting there for over a year and before it ever left the warehouse it was changed to a Rifle with an Octagon Barrel, a Casehardened Receiver and a Set Trigger, and received back into the warehouse on December 01, 1881. Then on December 02, 1881, it was shipped from the warehouse to fill order 30001. It is possible that the order was cancelled and the rifle was then reworked to its current configuration. This would be an excellent addition to any Winchester collection. Leroy Merz Antique Firearms specializes in antique and vintage Winchesters and other fine American firearms.
