1876 Winchester Deluxe Express 50
Description:
This 76 Deluxe Straight Grip 50 Express is one of my favorites. It is correct as per the Cody letter that comes with it. It was discovered a few years back that order number
21233 Shipped from the warehouse on Oct. 14th 1880 had over 2 dozen rifles with ALMOST the same specs. This one is ser 10924. Over the last few years I have seen a
few of them at . I sent the rifle to a Richard Pleines Gunsmithing in CT. He worked for Winchester for several years. He was so impressed by the rifle as he inspected it that he contacted Pauline Muerrelle. She worked in the Winchester Engraving shop from 1978 till closing. Her father worked for Winchester for 44 years. 1st Woman engraver and last engraver for Winchester. See the picture of the 2 books she published in the ad. Very Good Stuff. Upon inspecting it she commented the engraving to be of equal to John Ulrich and was original but could not guarantee it was his of course. She told me Winchester actually prefered the engravers to not sign
their work. It was allowed but not an accepted policy. She trained as all engravers had since the Ulrich family thats by learning from fellow Winchester Employees. She replaced Nick Kusmit. The last 3 digits of the serial number can be found on the inside of the sideplates. Only 127 of the 1876's were factory engraved. Thanks.
