Early 2nd Model Winchester 1876. 45-60 Caliber. Very Good Bore. Excellent Mechanics. Cody Worksheet. Shoots Great.!!
Description: Antique 1876 Winchester 2nd Model 45-60 caliber with the standard 28" round barrel with the original thumb print dust cover... Here is a pretty decent and early ole 1876. It is a second model with S/N 10871 and made in1880. Cody work sheet is included and is correct going in warehouse in October 1st 1880 and out March 3rd 1881. Caliber is the best shooting one offered in my opinion the 45-60. The gun has no finish and is just a gray gun but is smooth with no pitting and not dinged up. The bore is very good for 2nd model 76 or any 76 by that means. . Just has some frosting and a little wear but no big pits or craters and no rings or bulges. This gun shoots great.. It shoots straight and is very accurate. Mechanics are perfect. It feeds, fires and ejects just like it is suppose to. The lever snaps up tight to the lower tang and the dust cover retracts with the lever throw. The action works very smooth with no hang ups or binding. No backed out primers and no bulged cases so the chamber and head space are perfect. Both hammer notches are perfect and positive. It still has the original bushing bolt face and amazingly the original thumb print dust cover. All the correct 2nd model features including the screwed on dust cover rail. The only 2nd model feature it does not have is the side plates. I am pretty sure this S/N range should have loading gate screw entering from the outside so the side plates are from a later 3rd model if I am correct.. The rear sight is also a period of use replacement and is missing the elevator. By the wear mark on the barrel where the elevator made this gun was shipped with a buck horn style sight and not the ladder type sight. This sight has been on this gun for a very long time. The front sight has the set screw on the right side so it is a original Winchester sight but from a later model maybe a 73 or a 92 ?? The screw heads are all very clean with sharp slots and show no tampering. Markings are excellent. The caliber marking 45-60 on the bottom of the brass carrier is missing the 60 part?? This seem strange becaus the 45 is perfectly clear. It is not from a 45-75 caliber as the carriers are different. I just compared them with my 45-75 and they are different so it has to be from a 45-60. Absolutely not from the 40 caliber. The butt stock is very nice as it fits tight with no splits or cracks. Never sanded on or messed with. The forearm is not as good as it has a notch intentionally cut into the right side {see photo}. It has chatter marks on the left as you can see.. These are kinda odd looking and almost looks like something was chewing on it ?? Interesting features on this forearm and I would love to know the story behind them!! It fits tight with no split or cracks and never sanded on. All in all, this is a pretty decent and early ole 76 that has survived with out too much cannibalism over all these years and still has the majority of it's original 2nd model parts for under $3000... It is what it is folks and I think I have it priced very fairly as it stands. A final note is that I have custom made brass from Custom Cartridges made exactly like the original with proper head stamp. I can sell the buyer some or give you their number to call. It ain't cheap but you have to have them if you want to shoot it. Cheapest one offered here !! $50 insured mail shipping. I ship all my long guns registered mail so very safe and secure shipping. Packed tight.. Call 765-728-8049 with any questions or more photos. SOLD Antique: Yes |
