Description:
This is a rather interesting rifle with a saddle ring that letters as a Carbine. 40-60 WCF caliber, Octagon barrel - of which 28" was standard length and Plain trigger. There were only 288 Carbines produced in the .40-60 caliber, which makes this a rare gun. 6,612 had the standard length barrel. Barrel is a brownish color with mag tube mostly silvered out. Most likely cleaned long ago and is starting to turn again. Receiver has the same dark patina to the metal. Bore is good. Action is crisp. Carbine ladder rear sight. A replaced blade in the front sight. Wood is good with the usual scattered old scratches and mars also showing a period inlaid brass 5-point star on the left side of the stock. Over all good condition 1876. Comes with Factory letter. All in all, a rather strange oddity for the Winchester collector.
