Winchester 1876 26" Special Order .45-60 "1881
Description:
Here is a rare example of a Special Order Second Model 1876 Centennial Rifle. The serial number of this early Second Model is 156XX placing date of manufacture in 1881. This Winchester 1876 .45/60wcf. has a 26 inch Heavy Barrel. Three Barrel weights were offered, Standard, Heavy and Extra Heavy. Although 26 inch Barrels were not considered a "Short Rifle", they are and not often seen in this configuration. The front sight is a Special order "Military Windgauge or Springfield Buckhorn Sight". The front sight is a Bladed "Sheared Front Sight". This rifle was ordered for close in work in the most desired caliber. Overall condition is very good to fine with the rifle retaining probably 85+% original factory finish with 50% toning to a very nice even blue / plum patina. The metal is smooth and void of rust pitting or damage. The bore is ruff with loads of leading that should clean up with a good soaking and scrubbing with Hope's #9. The rifling is present, needs a good cleaning. The action is tight, smooth and mechanically perfect. The brass Follower is untouched with a nice marbled mustard patina. Wood to metal fit is perfect, normal handling marks and hits. Tis rifle books for $8000.00 in the Blue Book of Gun Values pg.2200. Very rare Second Model with a rare variation of sights. Please phone Tommy at (760)-912-3761 or E-Mail all questions and concerns. $35.00 shipping, insurance will be additional.
