Winchester M1876 Special Order Rifle
Description: S#32902 1/2, .45-60 Win, 26 3/4 inch half octagon barrel, bright, excellent bore. This lovely 1876 comes with a Cody zip sheet showing rifle, 45/60, 1/2 octagon, checkered stock, pistol grip, 1/2 magazine, and case hardened with 4-2-83 date in and 4-7-83 date shipped to order 3283. The rifle does show all five of these special order features. Lower tang is marked XX on side with assembly number that matches number stamped in top tang slot of buttstock. Rifle is built on a third model frame with integral rail for dust cover and second style tang marking with brackets. The buttplate is the second style with thin toe and brass trap for cleaning rod. The rod is not present. Barrel appears to be cut 1 1/4 inches 80% blue fading in areas with light scratches and marks. A deeply scratched impact mark shows on top about 8 inches from muzzle. Dustcover retains about 90% blue, loading gate shows 70% bright fire blue frame retains about 35% case colors, brightest under lever, still visible on 90% of frame. Wood is sound with a little added finish on butt, even wear on checkering and some marks from use. Pistol grip has a fancy ebony inlay. Rear sight is an early style flat top with step elevator, front sight is a Lyman bone bead sporting style. Rifle comes with a custom made leather sleeve style case with handles and double buckle design that fits this rifle perfectly including barrel length. This case shows many years service with holes worn at front edge of frame by cartridge lifter and leather fitted around lever and pistol grip. This case is in fair condition with split seams and some small tears. Unfortunately no maker's name shows on this case. This is a very fine special order 1876 with five special features in great condition. The barrel does appear to be shortened, but it happened long ago before the case was ordered. A super rifle for the advanced Winchester collector. Antique SOLD Antique: Yes Manufacturer: Winchester Model: 1876 Caliber Info: .45-60 Gauge Info: .45-60 |
