Winchester model 1876, cal 40/60
Description:
Am listing a very good condition Winchester Centenial Rifle , the model 1876 in 40/60 caliber , introduced in the Centenial year of our young nation. These model 76's were some of the few lever rifles used in the harvesting of the Great northern buffalo herd, the last of them other than stragglers were gone by 1883. Also the rifle of choice of the Texas Rangers and the Canadian Mounted Police, roughly 67,000 were made in a 23 year span , Teddy Roosevelt can be seen in many old photos with one of his many 76's. These rifles came with a standard 28" barrel , this rifle sporting a round barrel of which only 1823 were produced. Has the rifle ladder sight , if it was messed with it was long ago by someone that was pretty good as this old gal looks good.no droop in the lever , locks up tight, bore is very good. I've shot it on more than one occasion. She was Mfg'd in 1884 with serial number 45869, weights in at better than 10 lb's, what I'd call a man's rifle. Built to accomadate the longer cartridge's of the day but still not able to handle the 45/70 gov't round which lead to it's shorter life as it was soon replaced by the 1886 , I've taken pictures of dust cover, lettering on barrel, all is pretty clear. She's decent for a 136 year old rifle. I'd ship and insure in the lower 48 for $50.00 , look her over , no firing or dismantling , if it's not what you expected after three days ship her back at your expense and I'd give you a full refund . She's an antique so to your door . Any questions call, thanks
