1885 HIGHWALL, .38-55 CALIBER WITH 30" OCTAGON BARREL, #77XXX, MADE 1897

Description:
1885 HIGHWALL, .38-55 CALIBER WITH 30" OCTAGON BARREL, #77XXX, MADE 1897. Nice example fitted with a mid-range elevation adjustable vernier tang sight, windage adjustable globe and spirit level front sight. The rear sight dovetail on the barrel has a blank filler. I called this serial number in to the Cody Museum and received a call in sheet showing this rifle as being a .38-55 with #3 weight 30"
octagon barrel, plain trigger, received in the warehouse April 20, 1897 and shipped July 8, 1897. The barrel retains fine blue that shows some dulling from age only, but nearly full coverage blue. The receiver has naturally aged to a dark gray/brown and showing no signs of ever being cleaned or steel-wooled etc. Stock and forend are generally excellent and show only very light handling. The forend retains the factory ebony wedge inlay in the schnable tip. Action is tight and the bore is a little dark with good rifling throughout and showing some wear with any roughness light and surface- a good brushing and patching with something like J-B Bore Paste would probably clean things up somewhat- yet still a good bore as is. Fine, unaltered Highwall in a good caliber. Printed call-in sheet included.
